Svetlana Abrosimova continues to be one of the main players for Russia after a lengthy and distinguished career at the elite level. She will probably be looking for a repeat performance of her display at the previous EuroBasket Women tournament in Latvia when she was named to the All Tournament Team. It's now some 14 years since she began with the senior National Team at the 1997 European Championship For Women at a time when she was stateside and embarking on a college career with the University of Connecticut. One thing is for certain, Abrosimova knows what it takes to be part of a successful team. She has won an array of medals with Russia going right back to her youth days. In addition to her subsequent medals with the senior team, she has also been hugely successful at club level, winning championships on both sides of the Atlantic. She brings a lengthy skill set to the table with a capacity to rack up numbers in all categories. She can shoot the ball inside and out, dish up assists, rebound the ball and is also a hard-nosed defender.
