EUROBASKET WOMEN 2015
|Lithuania are dealt a blow as Sandra Linkeviciene will miss the team's qualification campaign this summer |
Within days of making an eagerly awaited return to Lithuanian national team duty, veteran star Sandra Linkeviciene has been ruled out of the EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round.
The 32-year-old, who was expected to provide the main thrust of the team's challenge, sustained a broken hand during one of the opening practices of the team's preparation camp.
Action was taken to address the setback via immediate surgery and that means she will not be able to line-up this summer in scheduled games against Belgium, Great Britain and F.Y.R. of Macedonia in Group B.
Having only just returned from maternity leave, Lithuania are likely to once again miss her leadership, all-action approach and contributions at both ends of the floor.
Linkeviciene led the team at the EuroBasket Women Final Round in 2011, as well as during qualification for EuroBasket Women 2013 a year later when she averaged 14.3 points per game.
