Italy came from behind to beat Greece 63-60 in Bormio on Thursday as both teams continued their preparations for this year's EuroBasket Women 2009 qualifying campaign.
The Greeks led 35-27 at half-time but the Azzurre, who got 19 points and 13 rebounds from Kathrin Ress, hit back for a 63-60 triumph.
Simone Ballardini, who is back in the national team after missing last summer through injury, contributed six points and six assists and also came up with five steals for the Italians.
"I am satisfied because we have transmitted on the court the energy and enthusiasm of the past couple of days," said coach Giampiero Ticchi.
"And we have been able to overcome the difficult situation we encountered in the second quarter.
"This is a young team that must grow in every respect, but I liked the aggressiveness shown in the first quarter because we cannot do without the defensive intensity."
Evi Maltsi poured in a game-high 21 points for Greece.
Youngsters Benedetta Bagnara, Angela Gianolla and Jami Montagnino all made their debuts for Italy.
Italy's qualifying campaign for next year's EuroBasket in Latvia tips off on August 13 with a game against Poland in Group B. They will also take on Turkey, Finland and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Greece are in Group D with Bulgaria, Serbia and Belgium. Their first game isn't until August 27 against the Serbians.
