Marta Magical For Wisla In Salamanca
// 07 November 2007

Marta Fernandez returned to her native Spain and played a starring role as Wisla-Can Pack opened their EuroLeague Women campaign with a 76-71 defeat of Halcon Avenida.

Fernandez, the older sister of Spain international Rudy Fernandez, top scored with 20 points as the Polish side clinched a fine Group B win.

Tracy Reid's jump shot opened the scoring for Avenida but it was to prove the only time they led in the contest.

Wisla moved 21-18 in front after the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 40-31 at half-time - thanks largely to an 8-0 run in the second period.

The Spaniards never really threatened a comeback until late on, when the game was already settled.

Anna De Forge added 17 points for Wisla while Reid top scored for the hosts with 18.
