Fernandez Fires Wisla To Victory
// 12 December 2007

Marta Fernandez had a huge game for Wisla Can-Pack as she led the Polish side to an 80-72 win over Halcon Avenida, from her native Spain.

The Barcelona-born Fernandez, sister of Rudy, poured in 30 points in a magnificent performance.

She received solid support from Jelena Skerovic (16 points and seven rebounds) and Anna De Forge (15).

Wisla led 45-36 at halfway but could not quite shrug off Halcon who looked to be in with a chance when they got the score back to 74-71 with two Silvia Dominguez free throws.

Fernandez's jump shot and a free throw kept Wisla ahead before two more from the charity stripe from De Forge effectively sealed the win.

Appropriately Fernandez had the last word, splitting two free throws to take her haul to 30.

Anna Montanana was impressive in defeat for Halcon with 19 points while Alessandra Santos (15) and Tracy Reid (14) also made important contributions for the losers.

// 12 December 2007

Jose Fernandez Fraile, coach HALCON AVENIDA:

"It was a very good game. We started well but the second quarter was not enough good so that was the reason that we lost this game. We tried hard to come back in the second half but the host team controlled the game and finally won."

Tomasz Herkt, coach WISLA CAN-PACK:

"This time I must say that I am very happy and want to thank all my team. We made a big step forward toward securing second position in our group."
