German basketball fans hoping to get a glimpse of international Linda Froehlich ahead of the women's 2007 EuroBasket will have to wait as the Sacremento Monarchs player was granted permission to miss the National Team's first training camp.

German coach Imre Szittya excused the power forward from the camp in Heidelberg from 20-24 July.

Froehlich is currently averaging 1.5 points and 0.8 rebounds in 5.8 minutes for the WNBA Western Conference-leading Monarchs.

Wing player Andrea Glasauer, who won All-Big Ten Honourable Mention honours this season at Northwestern, was also excused from the camp.

A second training camp will take place in Heidelberg from 10-15 August ahead of two warm-up games against Poland in Gdynia on 22 and 23 August - and friendlies versus Holland in Nimwegen on 25 August and in Dorsten on 26 August.

Germany, who face Romania, Belgium and Lithuania in Group B of the EuroBasket from 24 September to 7 October in Italy, will then play two games against Croatia on 1 and 2 September in Marburg before leaving for a final training camp in Cervia, Italy on 5 September.
