Ros Casares’ charismatic captain Amaya Valdemoro takes the Player of the Week honours after the second game day of the EuroLeague Women competition, nearly pulling off a triple-double in a close win against World Cup champions BC Volgaburmash Samara.

Suffering an off day from 2-point range, Valdemoro made up for it everywhere else on the court, hitting 4/7 3-pointers, grabbing 12 rebounds, dishing out 5 assists and taking 8 steals.

She also had a game high 20 points, making her presence known against the Samara side which includes 4 members of the Russian national team which beat Spain in the Semi-Finals of the European Championships in September.

Ros Casares suffered at the hands of Czech championship Gambrinus Brno last week, however are now back on track, showing they are a tough side to beat on their home court.

“I’m very happy,” Valdemoro told PA International. “I didn’t know about it. I had a good European campaign last year. I finish as the second highest goalscorer and fourth in rebounds.

“I have to take advantage of my current good form because the team’s aim is to reach the final four and that is my aim as well.

“The strong that I am, the stronger the team is, so I’m delighted.”

Also shining this week were USVO’s Suzy Batkovic and Lietuvos Telekomas’ Jurgita Streimikyte.

Batkovic posted 19 points on 66% shooting from the field, grabbed 8 rebounds and took 3 steals in Valenciennes’ tight 64-60 win at home over Brno.

Streimikyte was Lietuvos Telekomas’ leading light in an enormous 61-93 away win over Lavezzini Parma, helping the Vilnius club to a 2/0 EuroLeague record. The Lithuanian national team forward had 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals in the win.
