TS Wisla Can-Pack 47 vs. Lietuvos Telekomas 64
// 09 February 2005

In FIBA Euroleague Women action tonight, top-ranked Lietuvos Telekomas traveled to battle against TS Wisla Can-Pack. Both teams were aware that they had made the playoffs and therefore the atmosphere was slightly relaxed. However both sides were eager to use this match as a tune-up for the postseason games to come.

TS Wisla hit the first basket of the game, but from then on Lietuvos controlled the tempo and scoring. After going scoreless in the last three minutes of the first period, the home side was facing a 12-20 deficit at the start of the second.

Throughout the second period Lietuvos was able to maintain a narrow lead, but with just over 2:40 to play TS Wisla came back to within four points. However another two-minute scoring drought allowed the visitors to rebuild their lead to 27-35 after 20 minutes of play.

The third period of play for the home side was plagued with poor shooting (19%). As a result they were unable to cut into their 12-point deficit, and with Lietuvos shooting 43% from the field, they were down 33-48 at the start of the fourth quarter.

During the final ten minutes of play, TS Wisla was unable to find their shooting touch and struggled to put points on the board. The Lithuanian champions went on to capture this game 47-64, thanks to Rima Valentine's 19 points. TS Wisla was led by Iva Perovanovic who tallied 17 points. The Polish team can be proud of their achievement of making the postseason playoffs in their first season in the FIBA Euroleague.

Quotes TS Wisla Can-Pack vs. Lietuvos Telekomas
// 09 February 2005

Algirdas Paulauskas, Head Coach of Lietuvos Telekomas :

"It was not too good of a game but I am satisfied with the final result. In the moments when the Polish team was coming closer, my team played very experienced basketball and that decided the result."

Wojciech Downar, Head Coach of TS Wisla Can-Pack :

"I ordered my players to watch Kathryn Douglas and Irena Baranauskaite and it gave the result becouse they scored together 17 points only. But Rima Valentiene scored 19 points and because we only scored 47 points, there was no chance to win the game.

Shooting only 19% from two-point distance makes it difficult to win, no matter what league you play in. I do hope that it was only a fluke and that in the next games my team will prove itself."
