Ilona Korstin heads into EuroBasket Women 2011 celebrating a decade of success with the National Team having been involved right at the heart of the almost perennial medal success of the Russian team. From EuroBasket Women to the Olympics and FIBA World Championship Women, the guard has seen it all and done it all - as her numbers and medals will testify. While she is not always the one who makes the headlines, her contribution has consistently been a telling one as a core member of a successful side for such a long time. Whether she is scoring points, or rebounding way above the level of most other players her size, she is always affecting the game. She has won a stack of trophies at club level domestically and more recently in Europe with Spartak MR Vidnoje who have also reaped rewards from a player who rarely fails to contribute in every facet of the game. She has dual nationality, which is why back in 1999 as a teenager she was the French Young Player Of The Year. Meanwhile five years ago, she was chosen as the face of the Year of Women's Basketball campaign. |
