Spain didn’t capture gold but Amaya Valdemoro was rewarded for her terrific tournament and amazing performance in the final with the EuroBasket Women’s Most Valuable Player award.

Valdemoro had 26 points and eight rebounds as Spain battled back from a 20-point deficit at half-time to trail 69-65.

The Spanish star almost cut the deficit to 69-67 with 21 seconds left but her lay-up rimmed out and Russia went on to prevail 74-68.

Valdemoro, a forward with CSKA Moscow, went into the game leading her country in scoring at 14.5 points per game and she also had a team-high 19 steals in the tournament before the  title clash.

Joining her on the all-tournament team were Latvia sensation Anete Jekabsone-Zogota, Belarus playmaker Natallia Marchanka, Russia center Maria Stepanova and Russian  forward Olga Arteshina.
