|Zsófia Fegyverneky was the last gasp hero for Sopron|
The home fans were left in raptures when the net swished for their team, although there was a very different sensation for Rivas, who by a strange quirk of fate had started the regular season by benefitting from a buzzer beating shot.
For much of the middle part of the game, Sopron looked assured and like they might get the job done during regulation - not least when a pair of free-throws from Sara Krnjic put the hosts 53-42 ahead.
However in the end, they were glad to be able to squeeze out the extra period after Rivas posted a 24-10 burst of scoring to regain the initiative.
It took an Iva Ciglar lay-up for the home club with two seconds left, as well as a missed Laura Nicholls shot to book overtime and when Rachel Allison then converted to make it 79-78 for Rivas late in the extra period, it looked like it just wasn't to be for Sopron.
But, Fegyverneky had the last word and snatched a memorable win en-route to 17 points, a tally matched by backcourt partner Ciglar.
Frida Eldebrink had 19 points for Rivas, whilst Nicholls landed a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Spaniards concluded a miserable few days in the wake of last Sunday's Copa de la Reina loss.
Igor Polenek, Uniqa Euroleasing Sopron coach:
"I'm proud to my team and congratulation also to Rivas! Two young teams, and both are in the play-offs. At the end of the game we had luck, but we worked for it. Now we have to get ready for the MEL Final Four and the EuroLeague Women play-offs."
Jose Ignacio Hernández, Rivas Ecopolis:
"This was an exciting game for basketball fans. I am proud for my team. After the Spanish Cup we were tired but we made a good job tonight. I'm sure that both teams are happy, not to meet Fenerbahce in the play-offs."
Zsófia Fegyverneky, Uniqa Euroleasing Sopron:
"We are very happy, that we finished the regular season with a victory, and we reached the 4th place in the group. We had luck in the last second, but we worked hard for this."
Vega Gimeno, Rivas Ecopolis:
"I'm proud of my team-mates. Without [Queralt] Casas, and after the Spanish Cup, where we played also overtime in the final, we played well and fought until the end. Now we will try to give our best in the play-offs. We will fight for the Final Eight."
