Tarbes GB will head into the second half of the EuroLeague Women Qualifying Campaign having boosted their chances of claiming a top four finish in Group C after picking up a 63-59 home win against VICI-Aistes.
While far from a classic performance by the French champions who still managed to come out on top despite a worrying 24 turnovers, they won't care too much as they put pressure on Galatasaray Medical Park who now also have on two wins and three losses.
To their credit, the visitors never gave up and were always in the game, holding the home side to just ten points in the last period to set up an exciting finish.
However they didn't have enough of an inside presence to trouble Tarbes enough and eek out a first success away from home.
It truly was a contrast of styles with Tarbes deciding to down an inside route more accustomed to domestic rivals Bourges Basket. Ultimately it paid dividends with Jelena Dubljevic claiming 22 points and 6 rebounds.
However while Tarbes GB concentrated on getting to the hoop and relying on their frontcourt to get the job done, they may have only shot the ball three times from outside but made every one - critical in a tight game.
Coach Kaunas Mantas Sernius:
"After a long trip we just not arrived agressiv to this kind of game, we could not stopped the players we wanted and you can see our statistics..... "
Kaunas Giard Ausra Bimbaite:
"We had a bad game. I think we played our worst game here since the beginning of EuroLeague Women competition."
Coach Tarbes, Alain Jardel:
"Game under pression but I congratulate all my players and their performances! we missed Ivanka Matic but the others did what I asked from them before and we dominated Kaunas in most sector of play!"
