UMMC Ekaterinburg kept it a three-way battle at the top of Euroleague Women Group B as they saw off Lotos Gdynia 80-62.
Cappie Pondexter was the star of the show with 22 points and 10 rebounds as UMMC joined Fenerbahce and MKB Euroleasing at 2-0.
Veteran Ann Wauters also had a typically strong night with 17 points and nine rebounds.
|Milka Bjelica led Gdynia with 11 points|
The visitors really turned up the heat in the second period, and a 10-2 run, capped by Wauters' jump-shot, gave them all the breathing space they would need as they went into the locker room up 44-28 at the break.
From there, they were able to cruise through the second half with their superiority clear to see.
UMMC dominated on the boards, outrebounding their opponents a massive 45-21, although they will be less pleased about dominating the turnover statistics too, committing 21 to Gdynia's 10.
Gruda also made it into double figures with 13 points.
Milka Bjelica led Gdynia with 11 points, while Monica Wright and Sandora Irvin had 10 each.
Lotos Head Coach Dariusz Raczynski:
To lose against a strong oppontent like Ekaterinburg is not a shame. We played very well and I'm very happy with the cooperation in the team. We can see the progress and I hope we can win our next game. Congratulations to the girls.
Lotos Center Milka Bjelica:
We played good basketball against such a good team as Ekaterinburg. They are a very strong team but we still made a lot of mistakes. Physically we're not ready to play 40 minutes but we are improving. We will try to play better in our next home game and win against Gospic.
UMMC Head Coach Gundars Vetra:
We came here to win the game and we started very good. We were in control from the beginning and for the whole game. In the second half Lotos played harder and more physically, changed the style of their game and played very well. We couldn't play against their strong defense. If they play like this in the future they can win the next game.
UMMC Forward Agnieszka Bibrzycka:
21 turnovers is too much and is not typical for our team, even though it was forced by the aggressive defense of Lotos in the second half. Congratulations to Lotos. They played pretty well and they can win the next game.
