|Latvia international Gunta Basko made her first appearance in the Wisla Can-Pack squad after her injury|
Wisla Can-Pack Krakow survived a real scare at TTT Riga in the EuroLeague Women Group A on Thursday night before prevailing 82-74.
The home side led for much of the third quarter and kept the game close until the end before losing for the eighth time in nine games.
Wisla, who played Yelena Leuchanka and Nicole Powell for the first time in the EuroLeague since their arrival over the winter break, also had Latvia star Gunta Basko back in the line-up.
Basko had suffered an injury earlier this season in a Polish league game but is now back to strengthen the line-up of Jose Ignacio Hernandez.
It was the two newcomers that allowed Wisla to go in front.
Powell sank a pair of free-throws to knot the game at 47-47 and take her points haul to 14, and then Leuchanka made two of four free-throws.
The new captain of Wisla, Ewelina Kobryn, sank two from the charity stripe to make it 51-47.
Wisla, who won the first encounter by 41 points, saw their lead cut to one when Riga's Anda Eibele buried a three-pointer.
But Kobryn replied with a basket and Leuchanka followed with a three-point play.
Wisla had their noses in front to stay and recorded an eight-point triumph.
They improved to 5-4 in Group A - the same record as Good Angels Kosice.
Riga have no chance of progressing to the play-offs.
Wisla Head Coach Jose Hernandez:
"It was a very important game for us. Now we are in the second place in Group B because Kosice lost at Pecs. We added two new players - Powell and Leuchanka - recently and Gunta came back after injury so we need some time to adjust."
Wisla player Gunta Basko:
"I'm very happy that we won. Every win in EuroLeague Women counts, especially when you play and win road games. Riga team played active and aggressive basketball, just as I expected. I like to play for Wisla and our fans are really good."
TTT Riga Head Coach Aigars Nerips:
"We fought well however it`s not possible to be satisfied with the outcome of the game. Our girls played well, I have nothing to complain about."
TTT Riga player Karline Nimane:
"We played with passion tonight. It was difficult to stop the tall players of Wisla in the third quarter and it was the turning point of the game."
