| 15.12.2010 EUROLEAGUE WOMEN Teams do not usually travel to Salamanca and come away with a win in the EuroLeague Women. Tarbes GB certainly didn't mount much of a challenge at one of the best-supported clubs in the world as they crashed to an 87-49 defeat to the Group C leaders. Avenida, one week after a surprise defeat at VICI Aistes, overcame early resistance by the French to win easily. The Spanish giants are now 6-2 and a game clear of Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje - a side they will square off against in Salamanca on January 19 in what could be a battle for group supremacy. Early on, Tarbes played well. A jump shot by Jelena Dubljevic put Alain Jardel's side in front at 13-8 midway through the opening quarter but Avenida hit back with a vengeance. They took the lead for good at 14-13 with an Anke De Mondt three-pointer. She would finish three of seven from long range on the night. By the time Anna Montanana scored with a jumper to take her points haul to 10 early in the second quarter, Avenida had reeled off 15 consecutive points and led 23-13. Tarbes hung around for a while but by half-time, the rout was on with the Wurzburg Arena going crazy. A basket by Marta Xargay gave the hosts a 46-25 stranglehold on proceedings as the teams went to the changing rooms. Lucas Mondelo's side pressed home the advantage in the second half. Montanana led a balanced Avenida attack with 16 points. Tarbes are now alongside VICI Aistes and Galatasaray with three wins and five defeats. |
