MKB Euroleasing Sopron broke open a close game in the fourth quarter and beat Good Angels Kosice 74-63 on the opening night of the EuroLeague Women. Clinging to a 51-50 lead in the Group C clash with just under nine minutes to go following a jump shot by Kosice's Candice Dupree, Sopron reeled off 14 of the contest's next 16 points to take command for good. Edit Ratkainé started the game-winning surge by making two free throws and then knocking down a three-pointer before Katalin Honti made one of two at the stripe. Kosice's Anastasia Kostaki made a lay-up, only for Dora Horti to reply with a jump shot for the hosts to spark an 8-0 run. Sopron, who made it to EuroLeague Women Final Four last season, got 17 points from Honti while Dupree scored a game-high 24 in defeat. If the home side did much of their damage at the free-throw line, making 19 of 23 (82.6%), Good Angels Kosice hurt their cause by missing seven of their 10 attempts (58.8%). The visitors also turned the ball over 19 times. |
