Czech National Team guard Marketa Bednarova has spoken of the importance of USK Prague having opened their EuroLeague Women account with success in Bourges last week.
The ambitious Czech club host Rivas Ecopolis tomorrow evening and are looking to follow up last weeks opening night victory with a first home floor win of the new campaign to take the early initiative in Group C.
Bednarova fully appreciates the gravity of the 60-53 road win in France since both clubs have been widely tipped as realistic challengers for pole position come January.
She claimed "The first victory was very important. I think that Bourges is one of the favourites of our group, so that makes our success all the more valuable."
"In particular because it was just in Bourges, where, in my opinion, not many teams win. To play there is really very hard, both in terms of the atmosphere and because of their defence."
"For us it was an excellent entry into the new season of EuroLeague Women."
Although a great start has certainly given Prague a real boost, Bednarova has also admitted that it will be a step into the unknown when their Spanish opponents pitch up in Prague.
That is perhaps not too much of a surprise with Rivas having played only 40 minutes of EuroLeague Women action in their history. Although with the Madrid club having racked up an impressive debut win, it has made Bednarova and her Prague team-mates sit up and take notice.
"For me it was quite a surprise. We will know more about them when we look at the video but for now its hard to say what to expect."
"When I researched on the internet about their team they have for me, some quite well known names!"
Meanwhile elsewhere in Group C, MKB Euroleasing have been handed a blow after it was revealed that Jelena Milovanovic is doubtful for tomorrows home clash with Gorzow. The Serbian forward was taken to hospital after complaining of strong dizziness and problems with her vision.
The latest news is that she has a viral infection and is unlikely to play as the hosts try to move to 2-0 while Gorzow try again to chalk up a first ever win in the competition after last weeks disappointing capitulation in the Spanish capital against Rivas.
