Avenida Pound Pecs In Salamanca Masterclass

Halcon Avenida are one win away from a place in the EuroLeague Women Final Four after thumping Hungarians MiZo Pecs on Tuesday in front of their electric crowd in Salamanca, Spain.

Avenida, who shocked CSKA Moscow in double overtime in the deciding third game of their Eighth-Finals showdown, won 85-63 and will now attempt to sweep the Hungarian giants in Pecs on Friday.

Jose I. Hernández's club hit MiZo with a balanced scoring attack in the first half when they twice went in front by 15 points before going to the break with a 52-40 advantage.

By the interval, EuroLeague Women All-Star Anke De Mondt and Silvia Dominguez each had 10 points, Isa Sanchez nine and the trio of Donnette Snow, Gunta Basko and Le'Coe Willingham six apiece.

The home side was five of eight from long range, while MiZo, who had a game-high 17 from Nicole Ohlde at half-time, were just four of 11 from the arc.

Avenida also inflicted damage at the free throw line, making 13 of 17 while MiZo took far less trips and made just two of four.

Petra Stampalija, who had five points at half-time, made the first two baskets at the beginning of the third quarter and the rout was on.

The Spanish outfit went on to restrict MiZo to just three points over the first eight minutes of the period and blew the game wide open.

By the end of the frame, victory was all but assured as Avenida had a 67-45 stranglehold on proceedings.

The last basket of the quarter was a three-ball from De Mondt, taking her points haul to 15.

Halcon Avenida cruised over the final 10 minutes and left the court to a huge ovation from their incredible fans.

Snow ended up with 17 points to lead Avenida, while Ohlde scored a game-high 21 in defeat for MiZo.
