Bourges Beat Besiktas To Snap Two-Game Skid

19 November 2008

French giants Bourges scraped a 60-56 win at Besiktas in Istanbul on Wednesday.

Beaten in their last two games, Pierre Vincent's team got a solid all-round effort from Croatian Ana Lelas who had 13 rebounds, 10 assists and four assists.

Brazilian center Alessandra led the Bourges scoring with 15 points.

Besiktas were on top at 31-28 early in the second half but weren't able to build on the lead.

Bourges ace Celine Dumerc hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 31-30 with 6:14 to go in the third quarter.

Emmeline Ndongue and Alessandra followed with baskets to put the French in front for good although victory wasn't assured until the final minute.
With 6:30 remaining in the game, a Lelas lay-up extended the advantage to 54-44 for Bourges but Besiktas refused to go away.

Two Shay Doron free throws trimmed the Bourges advantage to 59-56 with a little over a minute remaining in the contest.

After Dumerc  was off target for Bourges, Besiktas had a chance to pull level but Tugba Tasci missed from behind the arc and Ndongue rebounded.

Dumerc, the France  national team point guard, made one of two at the line to finish the scoring.

Doron had a game-high 30 points in defeat.

Bourges, as they normally do, outrebounded their opponents. They finished with 47 boards to just 30 for Besiktas.
