Holdsclaw Effort In Vain
// 07 November 2007

Chamique Holdsclaw was heroic in defeat as Lotos Gdynia succumbed 85-72 to Gambrinus Brno in a Euroleague Women clash on Wednesday.

The native of New York was outstanding with a haul of 32 points for the Polish team.

But it was all to no avail against a Brno team that had to dig deep in the fourth quarter for victory.

Holdsclaw scored 11 from 19 inside the arc and was 10 from 12 at the charity stripe, missing her solitary attempt at a three-pointer.

Dominique Canty (12) and Magdalena Leciejewska (10) also hit double digits for the losers.

Lotos led 59-57 at the start of the final period and Holdscaw's jump shot and free throw saw the Poles move into a 64-61 lead with just under seven minutes to play. But then they reaped the whirlwind from their Czech opponents.

Hamchetou Maiga's jump shot and Eva Viteckova's three-pointer saw Brno grab the lead as they went on a 15-point run that proved decisive.

Viteckova's 18-point haul was the biggest contribution for the winners.
