Blazek Looking For Wing Help
ZVVK USK Prague coach Lubor Blazek is hoping to strengthen his squad with a wing player "by next week or the week after".
USK meet Jolly JBS Sibenik on Thursday in EuroLeague Women Group B and while that game might come too soon for Blazek to get another player on board, the Czech Republic club are in the process of bolstering their roster.
"Our problem on the wing is that we only have Sandra Le Dréan out there. When I substitute her out, the other players are too small and we have problems there," Blazek told PA Sport.
"We hope to have another 1.86m wing player by next week or the week after." Blazek's team is in last place in their group at 1-3. But three teams are 2-2 and Bourges Basket is also 1-3.
"It's much too early to start worrying. There is plenty of time still. Now we're getting healthy and we're practising better and the team has some good motivation even though we lost last week (at home against Halcon Avenida)."
One area which does concern Blazek, one of the Czech national team coaches at the 2007 EuroBasket Women, is the third quarter.
In their victory over Bourges, Blazek's women outscored the French powers 21-12, but in their three losses, USK have been out-scored 69-34 coming out of the locker-room.
"We have been playing well in the first and second quarters. And then something happens in the third quarter. It was the same thing against Wisla (Can-Pack) and Avenida.
"Somehow we just lose our concentration in the third period. We definitely have to improve on that," Blazek said.
The coach also hopes his team can use the Sibenik game to find a good rhythm for a very tough upcoming stretch.
USK play against UMMC Ekaterinburg on December 12 and then face national rivals Gambrinus Brno on December 15 in the Czech league.
"That will be a very important and difficult couple of days. But first we need to concentrate on Sibenik," Blazek said.
