TEO Cruise Into Quarters
// 02 February 2007

Halcon Avenida fought like lions and led for much of the game but came
unstuck in the fourth quarter and lost to Teo Vilnius, 74-68, in the EuroLeague Women on Friday.

The victory has given the Lithuanian team a 2-0 sweep of their eight finals play-off tie and propelled them into the quarter-finals.

Playing as if they were determined to bounce back from their 78-66 setback in Game One, the Spaniards got 10 points from Nicole Powell as they built a 22-11 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Behind the stellar play of Katie Douglas, though, Teo battled back.

Douglas started the second quarter with a three-point play after being fouled while shooting a jump shot.

She then buried a three-pointer before the half-time buzzer to cut the hosts' advantage to 40-38.

The American stayed in the flow after play resumed in the third quarter, immediately nailing a jumper to tie game and then, four and a half minutes into the period, sank a three for a 47-45 lead - her team's first since the opening minutes of the contest.

It wasn't until Ebony Hoffman was on target with two jumpers early in the fourth quarter that Teo moved in front for good, however.

The first bucket made it 59-57 and the second stretch the advantage to four points.

Yelena Leuchanka followed with a basket and the hosts got no closer than four for the remainder of the game.

Leuchanka finished with a season high 16 points to lead Teo, and also had seven rebounds and four assists.
