Jurgita Travels Well For Vilnius

10.01.2007

Jurgita Streimikyte demonstrated her stellar qualities once again to help TEO Vilnius pull clear late on and secure a superb away win at USO Mondeville.

The 34-year-old Lithuania legend drained 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to guide her side to a victory that lifts them to second in the Group A table with one qualifying match remaining.

Five of those points came in the final two minutes. With the score at 68-69 with 1:53 left, Streimikyte scored a jumper and soon after made a lay-up to leave USO deflated.

She then added a point from the charity stripe to finish off the scoring.

Her points and rebound total matched the haul she made in TEO's last EuroLeague Women match, a thrilling 65-60 triumph over MKB Euroleasing.

Guard Katie Douglas provided valuable help to Streimikyte by adding 17 points and five assists.

USO are already assured a spot in the Eighth-Final Play-Offs but nevertheless slipped to a sixth loss in qualifying.

They will be kicking themselves as they went into the final quarter with a seven-point cushion (60-53), but their shooting suddenly deserted them.

"Even if we had some injuries, we played a good game but we didn't believe enough that we could win this game," admitted Mondeville coach HervĂ© Coudray.

American guard Marie Ferdinand led the team with 18 points and five rebounds.
