Viteckova Shoots Gambrinus Past MiZo

A couple of three-pointers, one by the red-hot Eva Viteckova, keyed an important second-quarter spurt to propel Gambrinus Sika Brno past MiZo Pecs on Tuesday.

In the opening game of their EuroLeague Women eighth-finals tie, Gambrinus, the defending champions, pulled away for an 80-47 triumph.

The hosts were tied at 22-22 when Zuzana Zirkova came to the fore, striking from long range.

After Viteckova split two from the charity stripe, Zirkova spotted her team-mate open behind the arc and Viteckova drilled the three-ball for a 29-22 advantage.

Jana Vesela then added another basket to cap the nine-point run for a 31-22 lead.

Gambrinus had more than enough cushion to cruise to victory.

MiZo's Dalma Ivanyi did score right before the half to make it 37-30, but the visitors would get no closer.

Gambrinus went on a 12-2 run to start the second half to put the result beyond doubt.

Viteckova, a Czech international, had a game-high 19 points.

A 40% shooter (14 of 35) from long range before this game in the EuroLeague Women, she would end up a scintillating four of six (66%) on the night.

As a team, Gambrinus were on fire from long range, making nine of 15 (66%) for the game.

The hosts also forced MiZo into 18 turnovers while committing just seven themselves.

The two sides meet again in Pecs, Hungary, on February 2 when MiZo will attempt to force a deciding game three.
