// 22 January 2004

With probably the most improbable win of the EuroLeague season, MiZo-Pécsi VSK have preserved their chance of making the quarterfinals, even grabbing the top spot in Group B. The Hungarian champion beat Lietuvos Telekomas of Vilnius 63-56.

After a slow start (11-15 in minute 9), Pécs took over in the second quarter, but their two outstanding centers, Chantelle Anderson and Albena Branzova were forced to go to the locker room before the break with serious knee and calf injuries.

Without the key centers, coach László Rátgéber had to use a small line-up, and it worked! Difficult baskets by Dalma Iványi and Andrea Károlyi helped Pécs hold on to the lead, while both teams kept missing free throws.

In the final ten minutes Irena Baranauskaite and Jurgite Streimikyte – two key players of the Lithuanian champion – got fouled out.

Annamária Keller, the back-up center of the home team pulled down key rebounds and scored crucial baskets, thus enabling Pécs to grind out a hard-fought 63-56 victory.

Co-MVPs of the game: Dalma Iványi (Pécs) and Jurgite Streimikyte (Vilnius)
