Lotos VBW Clima defeated group "B" leader Mizo-Pecsi VSK 70:63. But Krzysztof Koziorowicz's players could fell much better, if they had won by more than 9 points today. Agnieszka Bibrzycka missed a 3-pointer in the final second which could gave Gdynia a 1-point advantage over PECS in a direct comparison.

Lotos took an early 10:0 lead, but PECS came back and could narrow the gap to 2 at the end of the first quarter (18-16).

Unfortunately, PECS lost their center, Chantelle Anderson, due to a knee injury. But the guest stayed cool and followed only by 4 at half time.

PECS player Andrea Karolyi made 9 straight points in the third quarter. Allison Tranquilli added 6 to increase PECS’ lead to 5 in 27th minute. After the third period the guest were ahead by three.

Both teams began very nervously in the last quarter. No one could score, but instead they committed many unforced errors. Even experienced players like Svitlana Boiko made lots of turnovers. After the bad beginning, it was Chasity Melvin and Elaine Powell who scored one by another to take a lead for the host team. The two Americans brought their team the victory. Final score 70:63.

MVP: Elaine Powell

Quotes Lotus VBW Clima - Mizo Pecsi
// 18 December 2003

Laszlo Ratgeber, Head Coach, MIZO Pecsi:

„My players were fighting like heroes in the end in spite of loosing Anderson due to injury, foul troubles in the second quarter and our experienced player Boiki who played like a junior. We were missing at least one player on the court today.”

Dalma Ivanyi, MIZO Pecsi:

“Two good teams played against each other today. We were a little bit unlucky with Anderson’s injury. She couldn’t get back into the game and this was a little disadvantage for us. But we were fighting until the end. The home team was more focused in the final minutes. They also used the power giving by the fans and so they won today.”

Krzystof Koziorowicz, Head Coach, LOTUS VBW Clima:

“I’m very glad with the victory over Pecsi. We needed a lot of luck to win today as we committed almost 20 turnovers. We put a lot of our attention during practice to avoid that many mistakes in the game, but we are still committing to many turnovers. My team is very young but it is still too much in my opinion.”

Natalia Vodopianova, LOTUS VBW Clima:

“It’s good to win and get another two Euroleague points. It was difficult to prevent the Hungarian players from outside shooting and easy in the paint where we had Margo and Chesity to stop them. Later we played zone and that was it.”
