Dalma Ivanyi - EuroLeague Women Player of the Week

30 January 2004

MVP Dalma Ivanyi
The battle for Group B in the EuroLeague Women continues apace and it looks like places 1 – 4 will remain wide open right up to the last game day. MIZO Pecsi VSK took another step towards the Play-Offs this week however, with a big win over Spanish Cup Champions Ros Casares Valencia which took them to the top of the table. The 23-point victory (79-56) was all the more valuable to the Hungarian side as Pecs lost by 21 in Valencia in the first game and thus will win on points should there be a tie-break situation between the two clubs when the regular season finishes in two weeks time.

Central to this victory for Pecs was guard Dalma Ivanyi who, along with fellow Hungarian national team forward Andrea Karolyi, more than made up for the absence of centers Chantelle Anderson and Albena Branzova who are both out through injury. Ivanyi picks up this week's Player of the Week award as she was simply outstanding for the home club, scoring 20 points, including 5 from 6 3-pointers, grabbing 6 rebounds, giving 6 assists and picking up 2 steals.

A veteran guard in both European club competitions and the Hungarian national team, Ivanyi first pulled on the Pecs jersey for the Ronchetti Cup in 1994/5. She is currently enjoying her best season so far in Europe, averaging 13.3 ppg, 5.4 rebounds and dishing 5.9 assists. She also leads the league in steals, grabbing 3.4 per game and stands second only to Aix’s Kristi Harrower in league assists. A true leader on the court, and as captain, Ivanyi has proved absolutely vital to Pecs' EuroLeague campaign this season.

With only two games left, Pecs face tough opposition, playing away to USVO next week and ending at home against former Group B table-toppers Gambrinus Brno.
