Ros Casares player Amaya Valdemoro has been making it clear that the EuroLeague Women is the top priority for her club, as she divulged to French newspaper La Nouvelle République yesterday.

In fact, although the Valencia club is also looking to win the Liga and the Queen’s Cup, which will be played on her home court, Valdemoro, a Madrid native, has no doubts as to the main objective of her team.

“The European competition is a priority for our president and his wish is that if we reach the Final Four it will be held in Valencia. We have two football teams and one high level basketball team in our city and the people there like to win. I think that if we make it to the last four we will fill the arena with 9,000 spectators.”

With regard to the initial teething problems suffered by the three-time champion club this season, Valdemoro explained, “there have been a lot of changes since last year. Only two players stayed on after the end of last season. And when this new group first got started, the dynamics just weren’t positive.”

Although she describes the situation as difficult, she acknowledges that the change of coach will “allow the team to start afresh, although it may take a couple of weeks to notice the difference”.

Furthermore, Valdemoro recognises that the team has yet to reach its full potential and that day by day they “have to worry about our performance and let the coach get on with his job.”
