Janel McCarville was undoubtedly the star of the game as she helped Kosit 2013 Kosice to a nailbiting 79-77 victory over Lotos PKO BP Gdynia which sees the Slovakians move off bottom spot in Euroleague Women Group C.

The star center missed out on last week's defeat to US Valenciennes with a groin injury and

was not expected to play in the match but she did and probably had the top performance of the week in the EuroLeague Women.

The American was in stellar form as she recorded 28 points, 13 rebounds and a last-gasp game-winning shot to see her side move to 2-3 in the group.

Dominique Canty top-scored for the visitors with 19 points, while Chamique Holdsclaw and Anne Breitreiner each added 18, but it was not enough to prevent their side from falling to a heartbreaking defeat.

Nine points from  McCarville saw Kosit end the first quarter with a slim 23-20 deficit.

And four points from Anna Jurcenkova powered the Slovakians into the lead early in the second quarter as she started them off on a scoring run of 13 points with no reply.

But a three-point shot from Katsiaryna Snytsina seemed to give the Polish side the impetus they needed as they stormed back to close the quarter 44-41 ahead.

Neither side managed to take firm control of the game in the third period and there was still hope for the hosts as they went into the final 10 minutes narrowly behind 66-61.

Four points from Jurcenkova drew Kosit level 67-67 but the Polish side went on a 6-0 run to open up a lead again halfway through the quarter.

But a pair of McCarville free throws saw the Slovakians draw level on 77-77 with barely a minute of the game remaining.

And with just four seconds remaining on the clock McCarville sunk two points to send the Kosit fans into raptures.
