UMMC Ekaterinburg Are In Step
Undefeated Umana Reyer Rule Final Period, Top Gambrinus
// 19 November 2008

Unbeaten Umana Reyer Venezia looked to be in danger of falling to Gambrinus Sika Brno in Italy on Wednesday but they turned on the style in the fourth quarter and won 82-73.

The Group B leaders improved to 6-0 while Gambrinus fell to 2-4.

Zsófia Fegyverneky's three-pointer at the end of the third quarter gave Gambrinus a 60-58 lead and an upset appeared as if it might be on the cards.

Mariangela Cirone hit a three-pointer and Mery Andrade followed with a jump  shot at the start of the fourth quarter, though, to spark a 15-0 run that put the Italian team in control for good.

They twice led by 13 in the final period before settling for a nine-point triumph.

Italy international Simona Ballardini poured in 20 points for Umana Reyer, who got a dominating effort from Vanessa Hayden-Johnson on the boards.

The 26-year-old American had 21 rebounds to go with her nine points in just 24 minutes.

Umana Reyer were nine of 23 from long range compared to five of 11 for Gambrinus.

Petra Kulichová had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Gambrinus.
