Cyprus Start Strong


Cyprus got off to a flying start in the U16 European Championship Division C as they routed San Marino 114-43.

Constantinos Papacostas led six Cypriots scoring in double figures in a game that saw them jump into a 32-5 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Stefanos Iliadis added 19 points, while Roberto Alexander Mantovani had 14 and 14 rebounds and Giorgos Stylianou came up for 13 points and 18 rebounds.

Julian Gualtieri did his best in the San Marino cause, scoring 23 points.

The other Group B game saw Malta brush aside Gibraltar 63-35.

Scotland were the big winners in Group A, topping the Principality of Monaco 81-33 with the help of 19 points from Jack Nicholson, while Andorra beat Wales 72-52.
