|Jan Wimberg stood out for Germany as they opened a big lead eraly against Serbia and held on for the win|
Containing Serbia to just four points in the opening quarter has helped Germany to a 67-60 win in the opening Group C game at the U16 European Championship Men.
After scoring the first two points of the game, Serbia went cold, allowing their German opponents to go on a 22-2 scoring run and be in a position of complete dominance.
To the credit of Serbia head coach Marko Icelic, his team fought back and with the midway point of the third quarter approaching, his team had managed to drag the deficit back to just five points.
However, Germany maintained their cool, allowing their opponents to come no closer.
Jan Wimberg showed why he is one of the most talked about talents in Germany, finishing with an 11-point, 13-rebound double-double. Joschka Ferner, Kevin Casper and Mahir Agva also picked up 11 points.
With 14 points and 10 rebounds, Nikola Pavlovic was the outstanding performer for Serbia.
Germany are first up on court on day two when they take on Slovenia, whilst later in the day Serbia have the tough task of attempting to take down hosts, Lithuania.
