Croatia survived a brave comeback by Ukraine to take their third victory in Qualifying Round Group F, 86-83.

Croatia led for most of the game, but Stanislav Kudrya's three-pointer put Ukraine ahead 74-73 with 5:31 remaining.

Kudrya then repeated the trick with the scores tied at 80-80, beating the shot-clock for another three-pointer to put Ukraine ahead 83-80.

But Mario Hezonja hit four free-throws, Ukraine couldn't score down the stretch, and Ivan Jukic blocked Igor Boyarkin's three-point attempt and ran out to convert the lay-up with 0:07 remaining to give Croatia a 86-83 lead.

Boyarkin tried again to hit a game-tying three-pointer, but his shot missed at the buzzer and Croatia held on.

Coach Ante Nazor was not satisfied after the game: "The result is nice, but we have to improve if we want to be serious in this tournament."

In a lively beginning, Kudrya hit a three-pointer at the end of the first quarter to cut the Croatian lead to nine points, 26-17.

Ukraine then scored the last six points of the first half with Yevgen Sakhniuk scoring 4 of his game-high 22 points in the burst.

The half-time score was 48-41 to Croatia, but Ukraine scored the first four points of the second half and the score remained tight for the rest of the game. Paolo Marinelli scored a runner in the lane with 0:03 remaining in the third quarter to give Croatia a slender lead, 66-63.

Sakhniuk added 8 rebounds to his 22 points, and Kudrya ably supported him, ending with 16 points. Croatia were thankful for main man Mario Hezonja, who added 5 steals to a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Jukic totalled 16 points and Marinelli had 15 points.
