The U16 European Championship Division B was decided tonight in favor of the Czech Republic in Tallinn, Estonia in the Gold Medal game against Ukraine with a 61-53 win.
Both teams secured their spot back in Division A after just one year in the lower section following their great wins in the Semi-Finals yesterday, and fought today for the prestige first spot.
The new champs got 12 points each from Lukas Festr and Radovan Kouril while Jan Svandrlik added 11 with seven rebounds.
In Ukraine Volodymyr Gerun, Danylo Zuikov and Kristian Lugovtsov scored 12 points while Vladlen Berezhnyy added four points and 13 rebounds.
The Czechs took a 12-6 lead midway in the first quarter, and jumped to 22-12 after 12:30 minutes to finish the first half of the title game with a 12 point lead, 36-24.
Gerun led Ukraine back and inside the last three minutes of the third quarter it was a 40-37 score, but the Czechs answered with an 11-3 run, took a double-digit lead and never looked back.
