Poland is on fire after a big 70-61 triumph over Turkey in Group E of the Qualifying Round in the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men.
The win sends Poland to a very surprising spot in the Quarter-Finals, with a 3-1 record.
Turkey suffer their second loss in a row and now stand on 2-2.
Shooter Michal Michalak scored 17 points for Poland, Mateusz Ponitka added 13 and Tomasz Gielo wrote his first double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds.
Forward Berkay Candan had 15 points and ten rebounds for Turkey and Erbil Eroglu added 15 of his own.
Poland once more grabbed a handful of rebounds - 46, but Turkey was big enough to handle that.
Six blocks by Poland, three of them by Przemyslaw Karnowski, helped make the difference in their favor.
It was Turkey who had the upper hand early in the game.
Eroglu scored his jumpers and saw his team clinch a 16-5 lead after more than six minutes, on the way to a 19-12 first quarter lead.
Burak Yildizli scored inside to stop a Polish attack on the margin, but Karnowski carried his team on his back and the teams went to the locker room separated just by seven, 28-21.
Michalak returned from the break on fire, to lead a 13-2 Polish run, but that was only the intro.
Gielo and Piotr Niedzwiedzki led another 9-2 run towards the end of the third, to give Poland a comfortable 45-36 entering the last quarter.
After very slow three quarters both sides found their scoring groove.
Turkey tried to run and close the gap, but saw Poland ready with answers on the other end.
With 4 minutes to go Eroglu cut the margin to only eight, but Ponitka and Gielo scored from distance to push the gap to 15 only two minutes later and seal the deal.
Poland will take on Montenegro tomorrow while Turkey will see a big challenge against Russia.
