France stayed in the race for the semi-finals after an 88-65 win over Latvia in Group F of the Qualifying Round of the Termosteps U16 European Championship Men.
The French squad finished the group with a 4-1 record and will wait for the result of the last game of the day between Turkey and Russia that will decide if they made it to the top four or not.
Latvia will play the 9-12 games after failing to win a single game in the Qualifying Round and finishing with an 0-5 record.
Leo Westermann was the top scorer for France with 15 points, three rebounds and three assists in 17 minutes, Mathis Keita and Evan Fournier added 13 each, Valentin Mauve and Mourad Benkloua scored ten each with the last adding ten rebounds.
Niks Saknitis scored 12 for Latvia, Edmunds Dukulis had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Kaspars Vecvagars and Sandis Bets had ten each.
A very close first half, in which the lead changed hands nine times and the score was tied on ten occasions, finished with a small French lead.
A 14-0 run in the third stretched the gap to 20 in favor of France and decided the match.
Fournier scored nine already in the first half, including a three pointer before the buzzer to make it 25-23 for France after ten minutes.
Latvia used Andris Misters and Saknitis to take the lead in the second, but Westermann in a good finish allowed France a three point difference at the half.
Dukulis kept it a six point game half way in the third, before Keita carried a 14-0 run to make it a 20 point gap before the third quarter end.
France didn't leave the gas paddle in the fourth and continued all the way to a 23 point win.
