Serbia recovered with a 63-54 win over Russia in the second game of the 5-8 classification games at the Termosteps U16 European Championship Men in Italy.
As a result Serbia will play tomorrow for the fifth spot against Spain while Russia will try to win seventh place on Croatia's account.
Luka Igrutinovic led Serbia with 15 points, Djordje Drenovac added 14 points and ten rebounds while Aleksandar Radenkovic finished with 11.
Dmitry Kulagin led the way for Russia with 17 points and five rebounds. Alexander Varnakov added 11 with six rebounds.
"Both teams know each other very well because we spent a lot of days together in the preparations, so the coaches didn't have any surprises," commented Head coach Dragan Vascanin of the Serbian team.
"We had to work hard to get our players motivated to win this game, and I think Russia had the same problem," he added.
Alexey Zhukov, the Head Coach on the other side, agreed.
"We were so close to the semi-finals and we couldn't recover mentally from that fall."
Russia was on top of the game for the first 15 minutes, but then fell apart.
Serbia used it to make a 19-0 run and take over the game, never looking back on their way to the 5-6 classification game tomorrow.
Kulagin sealed the first quarter from the line to make it 15-18 in favor of his team.
He continued to be the main executor of his team, but half way through the second Russia went to sleep.
Drenovac and Igrutinovic led Serbia to a 35-32 half time lead but their run continued in the second half, all the way to 19-0 as Serbia took a 15 point lead.
Russia continued to score in very low percentages and never put the Serbian lead in danger.
