Armands Skele

Career: Broceni Riga (Latvia-LBL, 1999-2000), BK LMT Riga (Latvia-LBL, 2000-01), Anwil Wloclavek (Poland-PLK, 2001-04), BC Liège (Belgium-D1, 2004-05), Spirou Charleroi (Belgium-D1, 2005-06), Barons/LMT Riga (Latvia-Baltic league & LBL), 2006-07.

Armands is probably the most spectacular player in Latvian basketball with some amazing skills but a streaky shooting touch. Some years ago, he was considered an NBA prospect but some bad seasons broke all hopes and, at 23, Skele must rebuild his reputation. In 1999, he was the sixth leading scorer at the U16 European Championship (17.0 ppg), then the number two scorer at the U18 the following summer (16.6 ppg).  Skele moved to Polish leading club Wloclavek, where he steadily improved the next three years. In 2004, he was selected to the FIBA Europe League All-Star Game and won the Polish league. Unfortunately, his next two seasons in Belgium were not as successful. The Riga native never clicked with his new coaches and showed very little improvement and quickly came back to Riga Barons/LMT in the hope of revitalizing his career.  In 2007 he averaged 16.0 ppg in the EuroCup and hopes that his third EuroBasket will further boost his career.
