The Serbian basketball federation (KSS) has announced that former Partizan Belgrade head coach Vladimir (Vlade) Jovanovic will return at the helm of a youth national team this summer.

Jovanovic has been handed the reins of the U20 national team, replacing former Krka Novo Mesto and Lietuvos Rytas boss Aleksandar Dzikic, who had coached the side during the last two years and led them to the semi-finals last summer.

The U20 Serbian national team will compete at the European Championship in Estonia from 9-21 July, with approximately half of the players on the 2012 roster eligible to return this year.

Jovanovic had led the U18 Serbian side that included Dejan Musli and Danilo Andjusic to a gold medal at the European Championship in 2009 and remained in charge of the team the following summer, when Serbia finished in fourth place at the tournament in Lithuania.

The 39-year-old tactician joined Dusko Vujosevic's coaching staff at Partizan as an assistant in 2005 and was promoted to head coach in the summer of 2010, following his mentor's march to CSKA Moscow.

He stayed at the post for two seasons, until Vujosevic returned to the legendary Belgrade club in his previous capacity.

Jovanovic agreed terms with Ukranian champions Donetsk in the summer of 2012 but their collaboration was terminated last October.

Dejan Mijatovic, who was in charge of the U18 Serbian team last summer, has been trusted with the task of guiding the U19's at the World Championship of this age category in the summer.

His role at the U18 side will be assumed by Aleksandar Bucan, who was Dzikic's assistant at the U20 European Championship last summer.

Bucan, who will turn 40 in July, had previously been the head coach of the last U16 Serbia and Montenegro team, before the two countries split, at the 2006 European Championship.

The U18 Serbian side will compete at the European Championship in Latvia (hosted in Liepaja, Riga and Ventspils) from 18-28 July.

Meanwhile there is also a change at the helm of the Serbian U16 national team, as former assistant Vanja Gusa has been promoted to head coach.

Gusa replaces Marko Icelic, who had led the U16 side to a podium finish in last year's European Championship in Lithuania.

This summer's U16 European Championship takes place in August in the Ukranian capital Kiev.
