Robin Benzing continued his meteoric rise during the FIBA World Championship last summer when he averaged 4.6 points in 18 minutes per game. He arrived on the National Team scene in a big way at EuroBasket 2009 where he averaged 5.5 points in 20 minutes per game despite having had only very limited professional experience in top flight basketball and since then, he has moved ahead of more experienced players in the pecking order. With excellent ball handling skills and a decent perimeter game due to his ability to knock down three-pointers on a consistent basis, Benzing is likely to be on the international scene for a long time to come. He has sometimes been compared to a young Dirk Nowitzki with some claiming he is better defensively than the NBA All Star was at that age but for the time being, the comparisons stop there. Benzing probably needs to bulk up a little more if he is to continue his progress and establish himself as a premier player at the elite level.
