Serbia & Montenegro completed the ACI Trading Ltd U20 European Championship Men on Sunday with a bronze medal following their victory over Israel on Sunday.
The game proved to be something of an anti-climax as an emotionally drained Israel, 24 hours after a heart-breaking final second loss to Lithuania, fell quickly behind.
Serbia & Montenegro led 19-10 after 10 minutes and doubled that advantage by halftime, 41-21.
Israel failed to mount a serious challenge in the second half and Serbia & Montenegro cruised to the win
Both sides were obviously feeling the fatigue of playing 8 games in 10 days, a fact that was reflected in the statistics.
Israel made 28% of their field goal attempts, while Serbia & Montenegro were not much better at 38%. The two sides shot a combined 5/28 from the three-point line.
After a sub-par performance in the semi-final against Russia, Luka Bogdanovic rediscovered his form to tally 17 points. However, the key contribution came from center Nikola Pekovic who finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocks.
Jonatan Nir led Israel with 16 points. |
