Bourousis Chomping At The Bit

Greece forward Ioannis Bourousis cannot wait for the FIBA World Championship to get under way.

The Olympiacos star has a gold and bronze medal from past EuroBaskets, but missed out on the 2006 FIBA World Championship - in which Greece took silver - as he was the last player to be cut from the squad.

Now he is eager to grab his chance to play with both hands.

"For me the World Championhip is a special event," he said.

"There are other good events, but for me personally this is something special. But my goal is the same - to achieve things with the team.

"I am one of the players representing the country and we want to do well so we must prepare thoroughly."

Bourousis is coming off a long season with Olympiacos but insisted fatigue would not be a factor, not with a prize as big as that on offer in World Championship providing the motivation.

"We like to be here," he said. "We like to be in the national team, to represent our country, our state, our fellow Greeks. It is an honour for us. We have given people joy in the past and we want to continue in the same way."

And for Bourousis, after watching his teammates fall at the final hurdle last time, there can be only one goal once the tournament begins - gold. "The target is a given," he said. "We have to go one step further. We learned what we have to do and we can do it this time."
