Anastasios Antonakis made a lay-up with two seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, where the Greeks took care of business and defeated Ukraine, 89-86, on day one in U20 European Championship Group B.
Having erased a six-point deficit at the end of the fourth quarter, the Greeks took no chances in overtime,
Greece held the lead in their hands for the majority of the extra period, with Giannoulis Larentzakis sealing the victory with two free-throws with nine seconds on the clock.
Antonakis finished the game as the leading scorer for Greece with 21 points, Spyridon Motsenigos had 19, while Larentzakis chipped in with 16 points.
Artem Pustovyi had a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Ukrainians, who will be devastated after allowing the Greeks to come back at the end of the fourth period.
On Friday, Ukraine will have the tough task of beating the Russians, while Greece will face Estonia in the hope of achieving their second victory in the tournament.
