The local fans in Bilbao, Spain enjoyed for the third night in a row a demolition performance by their team in the U20 European Championship, this time with a 120-47 win over Austria
Spain join France as the only two teams to finish the Preliminary Round with a perfect 3-0 record in their group.
Austria, despite two impressive performances in the first 2 days, fell to 0-3 and is the only team in the tournament without a win yet.
Nikola Mirotic led Spain with 28 points and 7 rebounds in less than 16 minutes, Alberto Jodar and Alejandro Barrera added 18 each and Joan Tomas finished with 13 and 7 rebounds.
Austria saw Carlos Novas connect 12 and Anton Maresch having 11.
The encounter between Spain and Austria was projected as a one-sided show before tip-off and Spain did their best to deliver.
With 100% intensity, on both ends and for 40 minutes, there was very little Austria could do.
Just like in the previous game today in Bilbao Arena between France and Evan Fournier to Latvia, this one too had a top individual player challenging the opponents as Mirotic by himself scored more than Austria also in the second half.
Mirotic collected 22 points in the first half, tied with Austria who trailed 65-22.
Early in the second half Mirotic climbed to 28 points while Austria still stood on 26, and the difference increased to 50.
The underdogs kept fighting and remained aggressive, just as Spain did, despite the huge gap, yet the Spanish talent was too much to handle for their opponent.
