U20 European Championship
France picked up a winning streak in Group B of the U20 European Championship in Bilbao after shutting down Sweden 79-55 in a one sided game.
With this win France jump to a 2-0 record and secure their spot in the next round while Sweden fell to 0-2 and will fight to stay in the race tomorrow.
Already at the half time break France held a double-digit lead and never looked back.
After scoring only 49 points in yesterday's win the French showed they can have an offensive power as well.
Evan Fournier was once again the main scorer of the winners with 16 points, Rudy Gobert added 14 with 8 rebounds and 2 blocks while Leo Westermann scored 13 with 3 hits from long distance.
Christopher Czerapowicz topped the scoring sheet of Sweden with 21 points including 5 three pointers while Andreas Person had 13 points and Viktor Gaddefors collected 11.
France dominated the boards 38-18 as no player in Sweden grabbed more than 4 rebounds.
Czerapowicz hit twice from the arc in the first 5 minutes and allowed his team to be just a step behind, 13-11, but 7 unanswered points by the French bigs made a difference and after 10 minutes France reached a 29-20 gap.
Gobert with a dunk and Westermann with a three pointer made it a 16 points game while the French defense was making the real difference limiting Sweden to just 2 points in almost 8 minutes in the second quarter.
Sweden recovered their offensive game and finished the half time down 43-29, and later in the 3rd quarter it was just a 10 point game, 51-41, yet then came a 13-3 French run that decided the game before the closing period.
In the last day of the group games France will take on Latvia while Sweden will face Croatia in a must-win game.
