The two last seasons were nothing but a struggle for one of the best Lithuanian shooters of all time. After spending almost all of the 2005-06 season on the New Orleans Hornets bench, Macijauskas came back to Europe and signed a four-year contract with Greek powerhouse Olympiakos. But a devastating injury (he tore his achilles tendon in a preseason game) sidelined "Macas" again for almost the whole year. After a long rehab period, the "Lithuanian Kalashnikov" came back for the Euroleague quarterfinals and the Greek playoffs, but some questions still hang over his recovery. Can he still play like he did a few years ago when he led Tau Vitoria to the Euroleague championship game? Can he be the same Macas that led the Lithuanian National Team in scoring at EuroBasket 2003 (15.9 ppg) while hitting 42% of his three-point attempts? That’s what European fans are going to find out in September.

Macijauskas made his initial impression on the National Team just before EuroBasket 2003 when he scored 34 points and shot 11-of-13 from the floor in a friendly with France.  He parlayed that success into being the top-scorer for the eventual champions, averaging 15.8 points per game. He then went to another level in the Euroleague, with Tau Vitoria where he astonished opponents by averaging 18.5 points per contest while shooting  49.8% from the field! In December 2003, he exploded for 78 points in a three-day stretch in which he scored 38 against the Spanish side Barcelona and 40 against the French team ASVEL. His secret? Above all it’s his rare combination of quickness, shooting ability and a quick release which make him great and his shot very difficult to block.
