BASKETBALL IN EUROPE

Villeneuve have handed Tango Bourges their first defeat after nine consecutive wins in the French domestic league, whilst Liga Femenina title hopefuls Rivas Ecopolis were upset by Burgos.

Villeneuve d'Ascq re-enforced their title credentials and ensured a three-way tie at the top of the French League after inflicting a first loss of the season on Tango Bourges.

Lattes Montpellier are the third team at 9-1 after they cruised to an 81-60 win at Arras, with Geraldine Robert contributing an excellent 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Basket Landes are leading the chasing pack with an 8-2 record after digging out a thrilling 88-84 overtime win at Charleville as Kamila Stepanova and Danielle Page combined for 38 points.

Nantes Reze met fellow EuroCup Women competitors Tarbes Gespe Bigorre and continued their renaissance with a 71-56 win to leave their rivals languishing at the foot of the standings with a 2-8 record.

RIVAS ECOPOLIS STUMBLE IN SPAIN

There was a sting in the tail for Rivas Ecopolis when they visited Beroil Ciudad de Burgos, as the hosts posted a powerful 13-2 run down the stretch to come away with a shock 59-51 victory. Greek national team player Aikaterina Sotiriou was a thorn in the side of Rivas with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

A second loss for Rivas means they are now tied at 6-2 with Gran Canaria 2014, who had Brittany Chambers and Astou Ndour to thank for a 70-62 success against CB Conquero. The former had a phenomenal 28 points, nine rebounds and six steals whilst the latter had a similarly impessive 16 points, 13 boards and six blocks.

The beneficiaries of Rivas slipping up were Perfumerias Avenida who are now outright leaders, after storming to an 83-70 victory at Cadi ICG Software. Marta Xargay led the way in scoring with 16 points as Eshaya Murphy produced a nice double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds.

UMMC TAKE CONTROL IN RUSSIA

13. Candace Parker (UMMC Ekaterinburg)
Candace Parker is enjoying a more than productive season with UMMC Ekaterinburg so far

Russian champions UMMC Ekaterinburg are in the box-seat of the Russian Premier League after coming out on top in their meeting of the two unbeaten teams with a 78-70 home win against Dynamo Moscow.

Candace Parker picked up where she left off from her sparkling EuroLeague Women display midweek with 21 points and Sandrine Gruda was also on-song with 19 points for the hosts. Tatiana Vidmer had 20 points in defeat against her former team.

George Dikeoulakos got off to a winning start domestically with Nadezhda Orenburg, as DeWanna Bonner sunk 22 points in a convincing 77-50 win at Energia Ivanovo.

Sonja Petrovic has had a productive campaign so far for Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje and that trend continued as the Serbian wing contributed 18 points in an 89-51 rout of Spartak Noginsk, with Ksenia Tikhonenko also excelling with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

There was belated joy for Dynamo Novosibirsk who won their first game with a 71-59 win against Enisey Krasnoyarsk thanks mainly to 19 points from Mariia Cherepanova, whilst six players reached double-digits for Dynamo Kursk, who completed a crushing 94-63 win at Chevakata Vologda.

NO CHANGE IN THE TKBL

For the second consecutive week, there were no upsets in the Turkish League as the top six teams all picked up wins, with Galatasaray odeabank and Kayseri Kaski Spor both still perfect after nine games.

The former relied on 23 points from Shavonte Zellous to win 79-67 at Orduspor and Kayseri defeated bottom-placed TED Ankara 86-79, with Aysegul Gunay registering 17 points.

Isabelle Yacoubou had 20 points and five rebounds for Fenerbahce as they beat Mersin Buyuksehir 70-60 and Romanian star Gabriela Marginean had 16 points for Istanbul Universitesi who picked up a comfortable 82-64 success at Tarsus Belediye.

BK IMOS BRNO AND WBC NOVI ZAGREB SLIP-UP

EuroLeague Women duo ZVVZ USK Prague and BK IMOS Brno went up against each other in the ZBL and 17 points from Eva Viteckova took the leaders to a superb 17th straight win and condemned Brno to a fifth loss.

Alena Hanusova scored 20 points for the losing team and the win for USK was tainted slightly by a worrying injury to Michaela Stejskalova.

In the Middle European League, Novi Zagreb, coming off their first EuroLeague Women success of the season last week, suffered an immediate setback with a 66-56 home floor loss to MBK Ruzomberok.

Zuzana Brezianova had 17 points and nine rebounds for Ruzomberok.

The former EuroLeague Women champions also reacted to their short bench with the addition of Serbian national team player Marina Mandic.
