|Evanthia Maltsi led the way for Kayseri Kaski spor with 21 points|
In the only EuroCup Women Eighth-Final to be played on Wednesday night, last year's runners-up Kayseri Kaski spor laboured to a 91-87 first-leg win against Mersin.
Perhaps fuelled by being blown out by their hosts in the Turkish League only last weekend, Mersin produced the kind of improvement they craved, although they may be a little disappointed they didn't chalk up an unlikely success.
However, despite losing this EuroCup Women contest, Mersin may be hoping it will be a case of third time lucky when they meet up with their rival again, knowing they still have a great opportunity to advance to the Quarter-Finals.
When Bahar Ozturk put the visitors 43-32 in front, it looked like a shock win may have been on the cards, but Kayseri made an important 13-3 run just ahead of the interval to get within a point.
Mersin then produced an excellent third quarter to take a six-point lead into the final ten minutes of action, but were held to just 11 further points in the game as Kayseri came from behind to grab a win.
Evanthia Maltsi top scored for Kayseri again with 21 points whilst Lara Sanders had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Shavonte Zellous, Erlana Larkins and Chantelle Handy harvested a combined 65 points for Mersin.
