Koloskov Sees Rebounds As Key To Victory

The team that wins the battle of the boards will win the EuroCup Women, according to Nadezhda coach Vladimir Koloskov.

The Orenburg outfit will host the first leg of the Final on Thursday against Sony Athinaikos.

They will then travel to Greece next week for the second leg.

"It's going to be a tough game and a lot will depend on how we rebound the ball," Koloskov said to Basketball World News.

"The Greek team leads the league in rebounding, therefore whoever takes control of the boards will control the game."

In fact, Athinaikos ranked third in the competition, averaging 40.3 rebounds per game this season.

That is more than Nadezhda's 38.8 per contest.

Dynamo Moscow (42.3) were first and Dynamo Kursk (41.4) - the team Athinaikos beat in the Semi-Finals - were second.

"In addition to that, we are hoping for some luck as well as a sellout of 4,500 spectators, whose support we really need," Koloskov said.

The Russian team had a couple of very close calls on their way to the Final.

They edged Mann Filter Zaragoza over two legs in the Eighth-Finals and then saw off a determined K.V. Imperial of Cyprus.

Yet victory came at a cost.

"These opponents were the toughest ones," Koloskov admitted.

"We lost our main players: point guard Elena Berseneva and center Oksana Zakalyuzhnaya.

"This may affect our result against Athinaikos."

No matter what happens in the Final for Nadezhda, the season will be viewed as successful.

The club which was founded back in 1994 has become one of the best in Russia and this season has been positive.

The fans will be hoping that one day, Nadezhda will challenge the likes of Spartak Moscow Region and UMMC Ekaterinburg for supremacy.

"It's too early to talk about the future, but everything is possible," Koloskov said.

"It will depend on our team's roster as well as the rosters of the teams you just mentioned.

"We will also need to be united in achieving our goals."
