Schio Seal EuroCup Women Title Triumph In Moscow

Beretta-Famila captured the third European trophy in their history on Thursday by prevailing 78-69 at BC Moscow to lift the EuroCup Women.

The result gave the Italian outfit a 29-point win on aggregate after their 87-67 win in the first leg in Schio.

Beretta-Famila  travelled to Russia and made sure the championship would be theirs by storming out to a

big first-half advantage.

Italy international Laura Macchi had 18 points and Bethany Donaphin 16 to lead the winners.

The success in Europe is the team's first since 2001 and '02 when they lifted the Ronchetti Cup.

Despite leading by 20 after the first leg in Italy, Beretta Famila's players and coach Sandro Orlando spoke of erasing the big advantage from their memory and treating the game as if the aggregate score was 0-0 at tip-off.

Monique Currie and Plenette Pierson combined for 18 of BC Moscow's points haul in the opening two quarters, but their team trailed by as many as 13 before going to the break trailing 39-33 - a 26-point deficit on aggregate.

American Donaphin had 12 points and Macchi 11 to lead the Schio club at half-time.

BC Moscow managed to trim the deficit to 47-45 on a lay-up by Nadezda Grishaeva with 5:41 remaining in the third quarter, but weren't able to continue the momentum.

After each team failed to score on their next two possessions - Pierson was called for an offensive foul and Latysheva also missed a shot for BC Moscow - Macchi drilled a jumper for the next basket of the game.

lisabetta Moro's two made free throws gave Orlando's Schio a 56-49 lead with 10 minutes remaining.

That meant they were ahead by 27 points on aggregate.

They cruised over the final 10 minutes to victory.

Moro added 14 points and Kathryn Ress 10 for Schio, who were a scintillating 24 of 37 (64.8%) inside the arc compared to 15 of 44 (34%) for the hosts.

Pierson had 17 points and Currie 16 in defeat, while Elena Danilochkina led the team with 18.
